The primary purpose of our classes is to provide you with the knowledge you need to lessen your fear of the unknown. This helps you take an active role in your care and have informed, useful conversations with your kidney doctor, especially as you get closer to needing dialysis.
All of our classes are free and taught by a kidney doctor, dietitian, social worker and peer mentor. Your family members and friends are invited to attend, too.
Chronic Kidney Disease Session 1
This session — designed for patients with a glomerular filtration rate greater than 30 ml/min — covers how kidneys work, causes of kidney disease, understanding labs results, ways to slow down kidney disease and adjusting to a chronic illness.
Chronic Kidney Disease Session 2
This session is also referred to as the “Planning Class,” and covers treatment options for kidney failure, resources, nutrition tips and adjusting to a chronic illness. A peer mentor is available to show you how managing your health can lead to a longer, happier life.
Classes are offered at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus and the Northville Health Center. Call (888) 287-1084 to register or check here for dates and times.
